The key to furnishing a small space is a stylish concentration of storage areas without compromising the layout of well-spaced living; this clever home design, by designer Wu Chengxian for Taihe Design in Taiwan, highlights the space saving principal to great effect.

The lounge feels large despite its modest measurements thanks to a high ceiling that reaches up past the mezzanine level.

Concentrating on cabinet installations surrounding the entryway, a huge amount of unimposing storage space has been achieved behind the sleek lines of wall color-matched cupboards and neat shelving banks.

On the opposite side of the hallway storage, a tall lounge cupboard sandwiches a pullout desktop that is easily concealed when not in use for study or dining purposes. On the mezzanine, a small bedroom space feels airy and light on its high perch.

The staircase, which is accessed via the living room, is kept open sided to allow the line of sight to travel past it to the farthest wall, therefore upholding the full dimensions of the room.

The bathroom door is of a frosted glass design that slides rather than swings open to suit the limited space issue; inside the bathroom, the color palette is kept simple and unified.

High ceiling homes are impressive, but what are the tricks of the trade when it comes to decorating these vast, lofty expanses? We’ve gathered together some of the best examples to walk you through it…

Alternatively, you can install track lighting that isn't meant to be a focal point, but is easily moveable over long areas for useful task lighting as and when needed, even if you should have a quick furniture change around.

Via TrendlandHigh walls can, and should be, utilized as extended storage areas; an ideal example of this is the installation of a home library that not only takes full advantage of the added stacking space but looks attractive, warm and homey as well. Don't forget the addition of a home library ladder too though or you will be left feeling frustrated every time you find the need to get the step ladders back out of the shed to reach that much needed hardback edition on a high shelf; top shelves up in the rafters can be used for storing little used keepsake editions that you just can't seem to bare to part with, or for displaying art and artifacts far from the reach of clumsy visitors!

Via KJ HomeHigh ceiling window treatments are often stark, but high ceiling curtains can work well when created in a sheer fabric to still make the most of all that wonderful natural light. Venetian blinds provide a practical solution for taller windows, as they can be tipped slightly to shield the room and its inhabitants from excess glare whilst still letting in the daylight.

Style in Simplicity [Visualized]

Although these images may at first appear as a slightly less than photo realistic render, the utter simplicity of this project by Maria Movchan holds a lot of beauty in its clean layout and modern accessorization. Lets take a look at the house in more detail:

We begin in the open plan living area where rich walnut sits boldly against a stark white backdrop for dramatic contrast. Lime green accents have been added throughout the home accessories to provide fresh zing and personality.
