Hello Home Designers!
We've just returned from a whirlwind adventure at the "Materials Matter" exhibition (part of the London Design Week), and wow — what a feast for the senses! We couldn't resist sharing the joy of wandering through the innovative projects and jaw-dropping pieces of art.
Design with Purpose: It's More Than Just a Pretty Face One of the most refreshing things we noticed? Design isn't just about looks anymore — it's about feelings, purpose, and a deep, meaningful connection with the materials we surround ourselves with. We listened to stories of product innovations and were left in awe. It's so refreshing to know how much blood, sweat, and (probably) a few coffee spills went into creating these masterpieces.
Picture this: 100% degradable and recyclable materials in every shape and form imaginable. From bamboo that's as strong as steel to pendant lights made of — you guessed it — orange peel! Yes, you read that right. Who knew your morning OJ could one day light up your living room?
The future is here, and it's sustainable, stylish, and maybe a bit citrusy.
Nature-Inspired Stars of the Show Now, let's talk about the show-stoppers. We found ourselves gasping (quite literally) at a couple of stands that absolutely stole the show.
MushLume Lighting: What's the most natural way you can light up your space? A visit to the MushLume Lighting stand gave us the answer. The lamps looked like they were plucked straight from a fairytale forest. But here's the kicker — they were grown from mushrooms!
Studio Arp: Over at Studio Arp, we were dazzled by their incredible pendant lighting made from orange peels. Who knew citrus could be so chic? Alkesh Parmar, the founder of Studio Arp, pioneers the use of local waste materials by employing humble, low-tech craft processes. In the moments just before the orange peel completely dries, it behaves like leather - becomes pliable and stretchy. (see the image above) The Future of Interiors: Bright and Sustainable As we walked through the exhibition, it became crystal clear — the future of interiors is looking brighter than ever. And no, it's not just the glow of those mushroom lamps. We're talking about a future where design is both beautiful and meaningful, where every piece in your home tells a story, and where sustainability isn't just a buzzword — it's a way of life. Cheers to a future full of innovative designs, sustainable choices, and maybe a few more surprises — because who knows what everyday objects will be transformed into masterpieces next? So, stay tuned, keep dreaming, and remember: the possibilities are endless. And we're here for every single one of them! Happy designing! The HD Team P.S. Have you ever considered what your kitchen scraps could become? Let's just say the stands at Materials Matter have some ideas… 😉 |
