Monumental Bel Air Home: Interior Design Ideas

Encased in Travertine stone, this monumentally scaled Bel Air home, on Linda Flora Dr, is wonderfully reminiscent of Richard Meier's Getty Museum. The impressive Californian compound is found at the end of an impressively long and gated driveway that overlooks the 350 acre untouched Hoag Canyon.

The luscious scenery that surrounds the home provides a level privacy that is not common in LA properties, which allows the homeowner to peacefully enjoy the seamless indoor-outdoor living experience that is encouraged by the homes huge retractable glass walls.

The entranceway is decorated with more Travertine stone and a pretty reflecting pool.

Inside the home, 14 feet high ceilings give the room schemes space to breathe, making this a calming place–though the proportions of the house also lends its use to entertaining many guests too.

The serene scheme continues throughout each area of the home.

This incredibly spacious spa-style bathroom suite has a twin vanity unit, freestanding bathtub, and a walk-in waterfall shower.

A reflection pool view can also be had from the breakfast area in the top-notch chef’s kitchen, which features a massive island in the center of the vast space. It’s possible to close-off the chef’s kitchen during occasions when catering is in progress, or it can be left open to enjoy as part of the open plan flow that includes the expansive living and dining areas.

A roof-long skylight in the 34 feet high central gallery is the crowning glory of this home, letting in a stream of natural sunlight and giving the home a continually moving skyscape of clouds and stars.

Elsewhere in the home is a private office; a library that offers a view down into the wine room through its glass floor; a roomy dressing room/closet with a swish boutique style, and an extensive deck that offers up an outdoor fireplace to keep the homeowner cozy whilst they soak in the awesome views beyond the pool and lawns.

Design Inspiration For Small Apartments (Less Than 600 square feet)

Our first small apartment design is a London pad, measuring 521 square feet, or 48 square meters. Two large windows help out here by filling the compact space with natural light, but the décor scheme helps things along with an airy, bright palette.

Scattered dark accents are present to give the overall look some weight, and prevent the result from appearing bland.

Two different colored sofas add interest and make the space seem larger than is actual.

A low level coffee table gives the homeowner a place to rest a selection of books and decorative items without the space looking overcrowded.

The dining table has been pushed up flush against the back of the sofa to save space whilst still allowing for a more formal eating arrangement that does avoids perching on the sofa with dinners on laps.

The white kitchen fade away into the pale wall, but the backsplash has been picked out in a rich dark wood tone.

Lighting is kept small and simple.

The bedroom takes on an industrial feel with free hanging bulbs on reams of cable. The walls are kept free from clutter.

Our second compact apartment, based in Sweden, measures 377 square feet, or 35 square meters. This small home interior takes a different route entirely, incorporating a whole host of eclectic items to form a welcoming homey atmosphere.

Contemporary and traditional work together to create interest in this scheme, to keep the eye moving around the close quarters. A central circular coffee table helps the free-flow of the layout, keeping the energy of the space moving without halting at right angles.
